H A T S C A P E   F E S T I V A L

The Hatscape hat festival took it's inspiration from
local history and costume collections and provided an opportunity for local artists, designers, groups and individuals to create hats and head gear and to take
part in the festival events!

T H E    B R I E F

WHAT?
To make any kind of hat from wool and any local natural or recycled materials
IT MUST BE WEARABLE!

WHO?
Anyone could take part…

  • as an individual or as a group
  • as a group working with an artist
  • by taking part in a workshop

THE FESTIVAL

Friday 10th Sept -Sunday 12th Sept, Events included...

Launch of weekend, exhibition of hats and Hatart viewing.

Straw Plaiting workshop with Veronica Main and Mad Hatters Tea Party.

Hat Pool Tax Zone and Farmers Market!!!! (Wear a hat or else...) Proceeds to WWOP "We Want Our Pool."

Hatting and millinery workshops for adults and children with Sharon Morgan, felt making workshops with Marietta Alker.

Display of hats from the Wade Costume Collection, Berrington Hall.

W O R K S H O P S

Aim:
To make a hat/helmet/head gear yourself and bring it to the Lion Ballroom Hat Exhibition by Friday 10th Sept.
Adults and children could take part in workshops such as:

Feltmaking with Artist
Angela Martin

Hatmaking & Millinery day with Hatmaker
Sharon Morgan

Creative Hats, with Textile Artist
Jenni Stuart Anderson.

Feltmaking, with feltmaker
Marietta Alker

Straw Hatting and Plaiting with Straw Hatter
Veronica Main

Other workshops were also run at Berrington Hall.

e.g. Art Sheep Appearances, Edible Hats, Flat Pack hats, Felt Field Environmental Project, Baa Snaps-photos of sheep and rural landscapes, Education Packs, Knitting Poems and Stories.
